How To Lay Granite Setts
Granite setts last longest when they sit on a solid, well-drained base. As a general guide:
- Dig out and compact the ground, allowing for the depth of the setts plus the base.
- Lay a compacted sub-base of MOT Type 1, typically around 100mm for paths and patios and 150mm or more for driveways.
- Bed the setts on a mortar mix of sharp sand and cement, tapping each one level.
- Leave joints of around 10mm and point them with mortar once the bed has set.
For driveways carrying vehicles, we recommend using an experienced installer.
