✔️ Straight, graded timber. Battens need to be straight and free of major defects to fix tiles safely; that’s what we stock.

✔️ Pair with your tiles. Re-roofing with reclaimed tiles? We stock reclaimed clay roof tiles and concrete roof tiles to match older properties, so you can get battens and tiles in one order and one delivery.

✔️ Quantity tip. Measure your total batten run from your gauge (the spacing between batten rows, set by your tile size and lap) and add 5 to 10 percent for cuts and waste.

What size roofing battens do I need for a tiled roof?
50mm x 25mm is the standard batten size for most tiled and slated roofs in the UK. 38mm x 25mm can be used where rafters are at closer centres. Always check your tile manufacturer’s fixing specification or ask our team.

Are your roof battens treated?
Yes. All our timber roofing battens are preservative treated to protect against rot and insect attack for long service under tiles or slates.

What length are your roofing battens?
All our battens come in 4.8m lengths, which keeps joins to a minimum across most roof spans.

How many roofing battens do I need?
Divide your roof slope height by your batten gauge to get the number of rows, multiply by the roof width for total linear metres, then divide by 4.8 for the number of battens. Add 5 to 10 percent for waste. Or send us your roof dimensions and tile type, and we’ll work it out with you.
